THE SPIRITS OF THE MIDDLE PASSAGE

The Spirits of the Middle Passage is one of the most profound bodies of illustrative works by EMc2. It is dedicated to the millions of slaves who died at sea during the Middle Passage Slave Trade. The concept was founded on the imagining of a unique spiritual transformation in the face a such tragic endings.

The first series of Spirit Fish were introduced in the 2008 City-Wide African American Artists exhibition in Houston, Texas. The exhibition was hosted by the Houston MFA and 5A(African American Art Advisory Association). This and other illustrations will soon be available in limited edition prints.
